The first thing any tool lover needs is a sturdy place to store and organise their tools. The Fatmax range from Stanley is a collection of their most rugged and durable products, which means the open tote bag will withstand anything that is thrown at it. Having an open bag means you can quickly access your tools and the straps on the inside and pouches on the outside means everything can be well organised and found quickly.
A jigsaw is arguable the most important tool needed for cutting wood, metal and plastic (make sure you use the correct jigsaw blade!) We love the Dewalt jigsaw because it is battery powered which means no more messing around with an extension lead for power. The quick release makes changing blades quick and easy and the responsive button means the speed can be controlled by how hard the trigger is pressed. If you end up buying this one make sure you buy the battery / charger too!
Adjustable grips are designed mainly for plumbing jobs, for use when fittings need to be tightened and pipes need to be gripped. But their use extends much further than plumbing, there are many times when a general workman will use grips to overcome problems. These grips are durable thanks to the chrome vanadium construction and the combination of the light weight and ergonomic grips make these an indispensable tool for the box.
Another essential piece of kit for any man that is serious about DIY is the level. Almost every type of job will require a level at some stage, from putting up shelves and units to running cables up the wall. Ensuring you buy a quality level that will withstand a lot of punishment is important as cheaper levels could give an inaccurate reading over time, which could result in everything in the house being slightly off level! Another piece from the Stanley Fatmax range is the right choice for the job.
Arguably one of the best multi-tools on the market today, the Leatherman Wave Plus is jam packed with 18 different tools. A fantastic product for use around the home and an essential item to pack when travelling or camping. In this article we have included the most popular tool which is quite pricey, but Leatherman make many other more affordable models for people on a budget.
Screwdrivers will always be needed for DIY, but instead of buying a different screwdriver for every head type, buy a screw driver that has inter-changeable bits. This one compact driver will work great for all screw driving jobs. The Wera Kraftform is professional quality at an affordable price. It features their Rapidaptor quick-release chuck, that allows for rapid bit change.
It's no good having a cheap drill for DIY, when you have something low powered and the wrong drill bits certain jobs can become almost impossible. So a high quality drill is a must have piece of kit. We have selected the Einhell due to its power, quality and affordability. This drill and impact driver kit includes everything needed for drilling and quickly screwing in screws. It includes 18 volt batteries with charger, carry case and a light function which is really handy for those jobs in dark places.
Probably the best tape measure available on the market today. The Stanley Fatmax makes measuring large areas easy. The tape remains suspended in the air rigid for an incredible 3 metres! This means that in most cases you do not need another person to hold the other end of the tape measure when measuring large areas at height. It also includes a detachable hook to enable measuring from the underside and comes in an 8 metre and 5 metre version.
This high quality screwdriver and drill bit set from Dewalt has a whopping 109 pieces that will cover every imaginable screwing or drilling Job. The pieces are made from HSS steel which means they are very robust and there are different drill bits for masonry, wood and metal. Why not combine this with the Einhell drill & driver for the ultimate DIY gift set!
An Oscillating multi tool really would be an amazing addition to any DIY arsenal. Cutting blades can be attached for jobs that you couldn't do with a conventional saw, like cutting existing fitted skirting board. Sanding attachments can be installed for all those painting and decorating jobs. Also a grinding attachment is included for things like removing grout. We chose the Worx multi-tool because of it's affordable price point, quality and ergonomic design. However if you really want to treat the recipient we would recommend the DEWALT Multi Tool
